-
We raise our kittens with the intention of them living a long, happy, healthy life with their fur-ever family, but sometimes that just doesn’t happen. Animals are prone to sickness and disease just like people are. The least we can do is rule out the most common genetic diseases that Maine Coons are known to suffer from.
If a kitten you purchase from us dies from one of the three genetic diseases Maine Coons are predisposed to, you will get a new kitten from us, free of charge.
-
The three most prominent inherited genetic diseases are Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKDef), and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). All three of these are included in our health guarantee.
-
We are open to discussing honoring the guarantee for diseases not specifically included, particularly if the disease is genetic. We want to know if a genetic disease we missed is present in our lines, so we may adjust to prevent it in the future.
We also understand that purchasing a Maine Coon is an amazing opportunity, and you buy a kitten expecting a companion for many years, and that’s what we aim to provide for you! These cats become a member of the family, with their own attitude, likes and dislikes, and preferences. The loss of a family member is irreplaceable, but depending on the situation, we will always strive to come to a solution that leaves everyone happy. We love keeping a close relationship with those who receive our kittens, and we would never want to do anything to jeopardize that. If something unexpected happens to your kitten, never hesitate to reach out, and we’ll do all we can to make things right!
Receiving updates and photos of our Maine Coon cats and kittens thriving in their new homes is a blessing we are very grateful for. Seeing them grow and fit in to a new family is so rewarding.

Despite the gentle hold, the kittens believed themselves to be in the depths of despair during their photo shoot. I hope you enjoy these behind the scenes photos as much as I do! I’m not the best photographer, so I always manage to get a few unflattering photos to laugh about.

Are Maine Coons Good With Kids?
Maine Coons are naturally laidback gentle giants, but with their big personalities, some may be more or less tolerant of the tail pulling and heavy petting that comes from children.
Coonicles Cattery believes that children are both a blessing and a necessary part of life, so we prioritize familiarizing our kittens with children as often as possible. We regularly handle our kittens paws, face, tails and ears to get them used to the sensation, and present them to our handsy toddler as early as they can handle it. Kittens come along with us to friends’ houses and to family gatherings, where they can be handled often by new people and by other children, to get them well-socialized.
Having kittens that are family-friendly and well-socialized is one of our most important goals!
Josephine, our almost-one year old, loves giving kisses to the kittens. And to our dog. And to anyone within kissing distance! Most of her kisses are open-mouthed, and thus very slobbery, but fortunately I don’t believe this one was!
Story time with the dad! Sir Bruce, our mini Schnauzer, decided to join.
Are Maine Coons Good With Dogs?
With their energetic and playful personalities, Maine Coons can get along very well with dogs if they’re introduced to them early enough.
Our Mini Schnauzer, Sir Bruce, does an excellent job of socializing our kittens. While they’re still young, he’s exceedingly gentle, being very mindful of their comfort zones, and giving them as much space as they need, while staying close to get them accustomed to his presence. As they get older and more playful, he exposes them to more and more of his endless energy, until they’re used to his constant needling and bouncy nature.
Dogs are a common and lovable choice of companion for families, and Maine Coons often fit right in, getting along well with the playful personalities of dogs.
Can I Teach My Maine Coon Tricks?
Maine Coons are often called “the dogs of the cat world” due to their unwavering loyalty, trainability, and playful personalities.
Maine Coons can be taught a variety of tricks, especially if started early, and thoroughly enjoy the mental stimulation, treats, and one-on-one attention of being taught. Some common tricks are sit, paw, fetch, and stay. They can even be taught to walk on a leash, so they may adventure with the family and show off their skills and silky coats outside of the house!
Maine Coon Cat Price
A Maine Coon’s price can vary anywhere from $1,500 to $8,000, depending on the cattery. Buying a Maine Coon Cat companion should be an unforgettable experience because of the cat itself; not because you broke the bank to get it, or experienced financial hardship because of it. Coonicles Cattery believes owning a Maine Coon should be an attainable dream, not an impossible one. Our Maine Coon kittens’ prices vary anywhere from $2,000 to $3,500, depending on a number of factors; including temperament, color, and gender.
How Much Do Maine Coon Cats Shed?
Like any cat with fur, Maine Coons shed. And without the proper management, they can shed a lot! Brushing often can significantly reduce the amount of shedding. Using a proper deshedding brush can root out the bulk of the loose hairs, and finishing with a good cat brush to smooth out the coat can not only keep you and your house clean, but also works as a great opportunity to bond with your cat, especially if you positively reinforce grooming sessions with treats and lots of love!
Since Maine Coons are prone to mats in their fur, Coonicles Cattery prioritizes breeding Maine Coons with silky, smooth fur that resists tangling for luxurious looking, velvet-feeling, low maintenance coats. We also focus on getting kittens used to being bathed and brushed often, and in places they might find less than appetizing, such as under the arms, on their tummies, and their tails, so they will be used to it. Taking your kitten to a groomer on occasional while they’re still kittens is a great way to get them used to having their nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and fur thoroughly cleaned while they’re still young enough to get used to it.
Best Food for Maine Coons
Maine Coons grow until they’re five years old, so they need a high protein diet to supply enough nutrients to help them grow. That being said, Maine Coons tend to eat a lot, and feeding them enough doesn’t need to break the bank.
We free feed our Maine Coons their dry food, and also offer wet canned food to supplement their hydration.
When looking for cat food for your Maine Coons, either for wet or dry food, you want to be sure that the first ingredient listed is actual meat. Not meat by-product, not meat meal, actual meat. Chicken, beef, fish, turkey, any kind of meat. The other important detail you need to look out for is the protein content. For dry food, you want a protein content of at least 33%, and for wet food, 10% is very good.
We use a mixture of Purina Naturals and 4Health for our dry food, and both Reveal and Purina Fancy Feast for our wet food. They have the essential ingredients and protein content to support Maine Coons as they grow. Do your own research and keep in mind which stores are near you that carry the food of your choice. You can also order your food online through Amazon or Chewy, which expands your food options and offers convenience. If you have any questions or wish to discuss food options, please feel free to reach out in the Contact Us page to ask!
How Many Maine Coon Colors Are There?
The list of colors and patterns a Maine Coon can come in is very extensive and fascinating. You can find all the colors we’ve had in our reviews page!
The current most popular Maine Coon color is Black Smoke, which is fortunately what one of the kittens from our latest litter is: our boy Bruce Wayne. It’s a gorgeous color, and we’re hoping to integrate a Black Smoke Stud into our lines some time this year. If you’d like to see what colors we’ve had, check out our Reviews page!
How Big Can a Maine Coon Get?
A Maine Coon’s size depends on its lineage; whether it has large parents or average sized parents. The average Maine Coon size for a male is typically around three feet from nose to tail, and the average Maine Coon weight for a male is about 17lbs. If you’ve ever wondered when do Maine Coons stop growing, you’re not alone! They grow until they’re between 3-5 years old, requiring a high-protein diet to keep up with their growth. Our newest Queen, Freya, comes from large lines; her father weighs 22lbs!
Here we have Ivy Rain, maturing from an adorable kitten to stocky teen with gangly legs, to an elegant Queen, with her mane starting to grow in around her neck.

Casanova’s Maine Coon Stud Service
Coonicles Cattery is one of the top cat breeders in the area that offers a Maine Coon Stud Cat Service, allowing breeders to breed their Queens without the hassle of keeping a stud cat.
As an experienced stud, Casanova enjoys offering his services to Queens outside the Cattery, to give our Queens a break. It usually takes him two days to get the job done.
“Working with Jay for her Maine Coon stud Casanova service has been an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. As a new breeder, I was a little nervous and had a lot of questions, but Jay was incredibly patient and understanding. She took the time to explain everything to me and never once made me feel like my questions were a bother. She’s not one of those breeders who ‘gate-keeps’ information; she genuinely wants to help others succeed and is so generous with her knowledge and advice.”
