Coonicles Cattery in Hudson Valley, New York
The Maine Coon is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, with their origins steeped in lore and mystery. The “gentle giant” is widely desired for its size and distinctive physical appearance.
Maine Coons are the largest breed of domestic cat, with some males reaching up to 25lbs and some females up to 18lbs. They’re well known for their thick, fluffy tails, which can bring their length from nose to tip of tail to 3 feet long! They can be up to 16 inches tall, and many are tall enough to reach the top of your countertop with their noses. They’re very curious, and will often like to be involved in whatever you’re doing. Maine Coons are loved for their affectionate, friendly, easy-going natures, and are an extremely intelligent breed; many can be taught tricks like dogs, as they’re easy to train. Maine Coons have big personalities, and can be very playful and vocal. They’re known to be very good with children, due to their affectionate and easygoing temperament, and get along well with dogs and other cats. Maine Coons don’t stop growing until somewhere between the ages of three and five, and their signature appearance markers of the Maine Coon breed will only grow more pronounced with age. Maine Coons are recognized by their big fluffy paws, the lynx tips on their ears, the manes they grow on their chest, the square, lion-like face, and their exquisitely fluffy tail. These traits may be more pronounced in some Maine Coons than in others, as every cat is different. Maine Coons are such a treasure; their big personalities and their lovely nature make them such a joy to own, and once you’ve owned one, you’ll always want one by your side!
